Career Development
Instructor: Angela McCray
The Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) of 2005 was passed to promote career development, workforce development, and economic development.  What does that mean to parents and children?  For middle schools with a guidance ratio of more than 300:1, a Career Development Facilitator is responsible for career exploration activities (this used to be the responsibility of the Guidance Counselor).  Since career exploration is new to most students, the CDF will help students and parents learn about this process.

The EEDA requires that beginning school year 2006- 2007, elementary schools integrate career awareness activities and that middle school students participate in career exploration to facilitate choosing a cluster of study for the Individual Graduation Plan.  Beginning 2006-2007, 8th grade students will choose a cluster of study (see below for a list of the 16 federal and state career clusters) for inclusion on the Individual Graduation Plan(IGP).   The IGP lists courses required for graduation, electives that reflect the student's interests, includes a post-secondary plan (4 year college, 2 year college, military, workforce, etc) and lists the student's anticipated professional goals.  This IGP will follow the student to high school and assist the student in choosing classes related to their cluster of study/major.  The IGP process will involve the student, parents/guardians, Guidance Counselors, and the Career Development Facilitator (CDF).

All Busbee students will use assessments to learn about themselves and careers, and to determine their skills, values, and interests.  Other inventories may be used to further assist students in the career exploration process (personality inventories, learning styles inventories, multiple intelligence inventories, divergent learning ianking guides, etc).

For more details, visit the class links below or contact the CDF to schedule an appointment.
